詞源解說(shuō)：傳說(shuō)一萬(wàn)多年以前在世界第二大洋大西洋上本來(lái)有一個(gè)名叫Atlantis的大陸，大陸上還有個(gè)王國(guó)，以后可能因地震而沉于海底。古希臘哲學(xué)家柏拉圖在其作品《蒂邁烏斯篇及克利梯阿斯篇》（Tirnaeus and Critias）中第一次提到它。大西洋的名字Atlantic可能即源于此。另有一種說(shuō)法認(rèn)為Atlantic得名于非洲西北部的Atlas山脈。但不論是Atlantis大陸還是Atlas山脈，名稱又都起源于希臘神話中以肩頂天的巨神Atlas，因此可以說(shuō)Atlantic即源于Atlas。
